How the Air Feels to the Birds by Dave Eggers

"They act if they had never heard the question before. The what? they say. The air? What about it? We smile and rephrase the question: What does the air feel like to you, you being a bird, able to fly and all? Finally they seem to understand, and they meditate on this awhile. And then they begin: The air to us is a brother, a sister. We are intrigued, and lean in closer. The air, they continue, now quieter. We lean in farther. They peck us in the eye and laugh wickedly. Birds are bastards, every one of them."

From Dave Eggers' very short book filled with very short stories, like the one above, called How the Water Feels to the Fishes. It's part of a collection of short stories put out by McSweeneys, which you can find here.

Newest addition!

Yeah, that's right. It's Snake Plissken, sticking a giant gun in your face while trying to escape from LA. These situations happen people, time to get prepped.

Cherish this moment... it's one of only two action figures that I've ever opened. I bought this on eBay like a month ago and they finally delivered it to me last week, when it was raining like a....ummm...a bunch? The box they delivered it in just sat out in the rain for like 2 or 3 hours till someone got home and saw it sitting on the door step. Needless to say, the packaging for the figure was all shitty messed up, so I opened it up. Enjoy...?

BOOMBOX from Ely Kim on Vimeo.

My buddy Ryan Wood posted this on Facebook and it made me smile and occasionally giggle through all 9.5 minutes of its wondrous glory. Basically, Ely Kim entered this as his Michael Beirut's 100 Days Workshop. In this video he does 100 different dances to 100 different songs on 100 different (presumably successive) days.

Here's the link back to The Fader, which has the original post and track list:

Just to let you know, #26 and #80 are the bees knees.

The Wire

I bought The Wire: The Complete Series a while back. Needless to say, I love it. With all of my heart, not just part of it. The whole thing. The whole heart that is. Anyhow, I'm currently filling out a survey that came inside the box. I fill it out, it enters me into a drawing to win a 42" Plasma Television. Here are some of my responses thus far:

What, if anything, would you change about The Wire - The Complete Series? Please be as specific as possible.

I would change the length from 5 seasons to a million seasons. I also would have made every episode last forever, then I would be able to never stop watching it, if that's what I wanted to do that is. I would just like knowing that I had that option.

What, if anything, do you like most about The Wire - The Complete Series? Please be as specific as possible.

Simply the fact that it was, and still is, the best anything ever.

Free Breakfast!

I really dislike Denny's. In terms of all night diners, I'd much rather be scarfing down some Corn Beef Hash at Norm's or chomping on a been and beef burrito at any 24 hour Mexican joint. Buuut, unless my television is lying to me, Denny's is going to be giving away free Grand Slam's tomorrow from 6 am to 2 pm! Now even though I don't really like the food there, it's going to free, and thus will end up saving me $5 or $6 which would otherwise have been unwisely spent on a couple of Chalupas. Here's the ad, which ran during yesterday's awesome-as-balls Superbowl:
